不拆 Do Not Destroy
The two Chinese characters “Bu Chai” (不拆) simply means “Do not destroy” in reference to the destruction and ensuing re-development of Beijing’s old neighborhoods of winding alleyways, otherwise known as “hutongs”. Over 90% of Beijing’s hutongs have already been destroyed and they continue to be areas targeted for re-development today. With our “Bu Chai” t-shirt, we aim to create awareness and support for hutong preservation.
