Apparel Design Process

Apparel Design Process

From designing classic graphic t-shirts to hoodies and functional apparel up to accessories like fashion bags and trucker hats. I’m trying to show the whole design and creation process from concept and ideation stage to sampling, prototyping, labeling and packaging up to the final product.

The classic T-shirt

Having designed and sold far over 100 t-shirt designs including men, women and kids styles, I still believe the t-shirt is the ultimate casual garment. It is as personal and intimate as it gets but it also could be a form of expression, a personal statement or just showing your admiration for your favorite brand.

Design Process

From deciding on the t-shirt style (crew neck, v neck, henley y neck, scoop neck…) to the fabric material (100% cotton, combed cotton, cotton/poly blend, linen…), to the colorway and color swatches down to the measurements and fit of the garment. The look and feel of the finished product crucially depends on it.

Labeling

From creating the inside printed labels with washing instructions to the sleeve tags and outside hangtags, all the labels need to be carefully designed and placed.

Design, sampling and photography

It starts from designing the print graphic to creating the print tech pack which determines the size, positioning and colors of the image to sampling and prototyping the print graphic, to finally shooting the finished product.

Concept and Prototyping

A Polo Shirt designed for the urban cycler in mind. With added safety features like the pop up collar which features a built-in reflective stripe towards the back. Features which makes riding at night safer and more fun. Also a Storm Shell Jacket with highly functional features, super packable and lightweight. It will go anywhere you go.

Bags and Accessories

This is a line of handbags for the NLGX Recycled brand which is made out of upcycled handwoven newspapers. The bags material features a water repellent coating to resist light rain and PU leather applications with metal studs. The bags are stylish, light and durable and each one is a one of a kind.

NLGX Recycled bag and accessories lineup

The NLGX Recycled handbags, totes, backpacks, weekenders and purses were on sale at the Beijing airport, at NLGX retail stores and selected distributers in Beijing and Shanghai from 2014-2017 and were featured in multiple local and international magazines.

Trucker Hats

As part of the lineup, I have designed a classic 6-panel mid-crown trucker hat with precurved brims, a cotton front featuring a screen print and a polyester mesh back and adjustable snap closure. All hats feature a logo embroidery on the side and an inside logo print and tag.
